The buzz around the recent awards show was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The question is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team could be crafting a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it pioneered the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities only possible by choosing a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, allowing players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be completed in diverse methods, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, players can look forward to a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
