Nearly 25,000 residences in Queensland's southeast were left experiencing outages on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms passed over the state, producing strong winds topping 109 kilometers per hour.

Massive Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Impact

Residents reported giant hailstones as large as 7cm in some areas. Meteorological experts announced that different parts across Queensland had been impacted by large hailstones.

Emergency crews were working to restore electricity service throughout the affected regions, with nearly 70 crews activated to handle the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victoria's Weather Woes

Meanwhile, approximately one thousand residents in the southern state also experienced electricity disruptions after Melbourne saw its heaviest rainfall in over 500 days.

State Emergency Services responded to over five hundred emergency reports across the region, mostly for building damage but also for fallen timber and flooding.

At one point on the previous day, more than 28,000 power users in Victoria were lacking electricity.

Meteorological Predictions

Damp conditions were forecast to persist along much of the state's eastern regions this next several days as a atmospheric system continued to attract humidity against the shoreline.

Tomorrow was expected to become the heaviest precipitation period, with persistent severe weather risk expected across different parts of both areas.

Safety Concern

Health officials cautioned that there was an higher risk of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the northern rural areas, specifically given the ongoing climate situation.
