'People are fearful' - why 'powerhouse' Arsenal have become the side to defeat.

There's no doubt why Arsenal stand as countless pundits' top picks to claim the Premier League this season.

Examine their performances against West Ham and Crystal Palace in contrast with those same matches last season.

The Gunners have overcome all of them during this campaign, but dropped 10 points across those games as they dropped off in the title race last season.

Impenetrable Rearguard

Arsenal's defensive strength is a primary factor why they are seeming ready to finally fulfil their title target.

They rank top for shutouts (6), shots let in (3), opposition efforts (72), shots on target faced (19) and anticipated concessions (5.3).

The center-back duo of Gabriel and William Saliba is possibly the best in the league, with Arsenal recording a clean sheet in six of their first nine games.

Set-Piece Mastery

Their threat from set-pieces is well known, but rival sides still don't know how to contain the Gunners from these situations.

They have registered 11 times from set-pieces in the league, a couple extra than any other side, with 69% of their goals resulting from these situations.

"Arsenal can excel in various aspects now. The whole team has a daunting aura. People are just afraid of them and it is great to see."

Title Credentials

What is even more remarkable about Arsenal's start to the campaign is they have also faced Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United at opposition grounds and Manchester City in their own stadium - and are still leading by four at the top.

While they keep winning, their traditional rivals face difficulties. This marks the first time at this juncture of the season since 1992 that none of Manchester City and United, Liverpool or Chelsea are in the Premier League top four.

The expectations was on manager Mikel Arteta at the start, having spent around £250m on eight summer acquisitions in search of that elusive first title since 2004.

But the investment has so far proven successful in style, with his side second top scorers in the league and possessing the most resilient defense, despite numerous injuries.

  • Clean sheets in three consecutive Premier League games
  • 385 minutes without conceding a goal
  • Only a handful of concessions in 12 games across all competitions

Former players and experts have characterized Arteta's men as a "juggernaut, looking challenging to stop" with the whole club now performing with conviction and purpose.
