Presence
Steven Soderbergh pushes his creative boundaries in this nifty ghostly tale filmed completely from the viewpoint of the phantom. When a household featuring mother Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe moves into their new suburban house, the camera – AKA the Presence – shadows their actions. The daughter appears conscious of the ghostly being, and the entity appears guarding her. However, the motive remains? This is an entertaining concept that doesn't outstay its welcome, with a twist that could catch you off guard. October 11th, afternoon and evening times, the Sky channel

The Black Phone
Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller holds up well despite the lack of a continuation. Set in 1970s Colorado, a series of kidnappings has rendered the children on edge. After Finney is kidnapped by the kidnapper and imprisoned in a dungeon, he fears a fatal end. Yet the old telephone mounted nearby keeps ringing, with ghostly voices providing assistance, while the intuitive nightmares from his sibling Gwen may be his salvation. An effective horror. The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the struggle between spirituality and money, it's a knockout win for greed in this director's wonderfully garish true story about the fallen TV preacher plus her lawbreaking partner. Andrew Garfield acts as the venal Jim, who states at the beginning, “God does not want us to be poor,”. He and Tammy Faye begin capitalizing on the people's spiritual convictions. It's a riot of tacky decor, bad makeup and bad faith, though Jessica Chastain succeeds to show the real-life figure in a likable light. Next Tuesday, 1.15am, Film4
